William Arruda of Marketing Profs recently named video as the top trend in personal brand building and it’s no surprise to me. Last year YouTube was showed more growth than any other social media portal on Earth. I submit the reasons stem from how easy it is to shoot video, produce a professional video, and upload it to your channel, and that “a picture is worth a thousand words” so video must be worth a million.
When it comes to video you have to keep a few things in mind, 1) your audience and 2) the subject matter. You want to shoot content that your audience (customers and prospects) will find interesting. How do you find that out? Ask! Have a list of 10 or so topics that you could shoot a short video of, then show it to a few customer and prospects. Ask them to rank them 1-10 and after totally the scores, you’ll have a good idea about which of your topics to shoot first.
Remember to keep it short unless it’s not feasible. If you have a long video, break it up into separate segments and release them sequentially or “flight” them a week or so apart from one another. Promote your new uploads at YouTube using your website, email campaign, blog and Twitter to drive traffic. Build a valuable library and they will come, just be patient. Rome was not built in a day, it took at least three weeks!
